The idea of a studio for Diurnal Design germinated in 1997 when Mr. Levitt graduated from Yale and started his practice in Tokyo while working with Pritzker Prize laureate Fumihiko Maki. Inspired by Japanese architecture and culture, we set out to integrate serene aesthetics with technical performance to create inspiring and sustainable spaces that embrace temporal change.
Our work ranges from residential to commercial, cultural, and institutional projects, many of which have been recognized for excellence in sustainable lighting and daylighting. With global experience, we have contributed to over 90 projects that have received international, national, and local awards.
Our approach is grounded in advanced research in construction, lighting, energy autonomy, high-performance facades, and regenerative design. Mr. Levitt is a Professor at California College of the Arts, where he has been teaching building technology since 2006. He is a licensed architect and LEED Accredited Professional with architecture degrees from Yale and UC Berkeley. He has garnered numerous honors, including a Luce Scholarship and a Fulbright Fellowship. Mr. Levitt has collaborated globally with renowned architects and environmental consultants.
Levitt Studio is certified as a Small Business (SB and SB-PW) by the CA Dept of General Services.
